Future of Fire Safety – An Active Approach to fire Safety for Data/Archiving Centers in Pakistan

Since man civilization fire is dearest and dangerous companion – It is one of the many factors which revolutionized human development by enabling us to use heat energy for constructive purposes but on the other side, it is the cause of extinct the existence of man-made or natural life and creations.
With the passage of time man learn how to deal with fire incidents either by preventive approaches or reactive approaches while these approaches are refine with time.
Now we have range of fire safety techniques and facilities which can help us to control fire risk before it goes beyond our limitation. We have fire detection system which alerts even on a puff of smoke and signals to integrated system. The warning system is also developed from many aspects, we have audio, visual alert systems which activated within no time of detection.
Than we have firefighting systems which are now designed more focal, precise and effective. Fire Safety industry have introduce human and ecological friendly fire extinguishing agents includes Halotron Gas, NOVEC 1230 and FM 200 which have least effects on the material upon which its residue left.
Despite all the above important developments of a reactive approach, it is fact that prevention is the ideal approach for fire incidents because it benefits in multiple ways that include avoiding any downtime, prevent property loss and save maintenance losses.
In Pakistan data centers and archiving are equipped with a low-efficiency fire safety system which includes the installation of portable fire extinguishers, installation of a detection system without a fire suppression system with no technical staff.
When we talk about the external support of fire safety (City fire services) in busy cities of Pakistan includes Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad the services need huge up-gradation from both response and capacity aspects. For example, Karachi has high rise building up to 50 or 60 levels (Approx. 600 ft.) but the city fire safety service has no capacity, even to access that much high from the exterior of the building from the ground. The staff of the city fire services have no updated awareness of firefighting techniques and found relying on the convention and outdated approaches.
After 18th Amendment in the Pakistan constitution Occupation Health and Safety become now a provincial subject and hence fire safety legislation became also part of it. Sindh government have passed an act in 2017 named Sindh Occupation health and safety act 2017 which accountable employers and staff to ensure occupational health and safety include fire safety and other important components of safety. But this law needs to be back with a code of practice or standards so that the public can compliance them as defined.
In a nutshell future, fire safety in Pakistan will be one of the most rapidly growing industry which ultimately enable people to protect their properties from fire incidents.
